Since our founding, the USSYAA has awarded hundreds of thousands of dollars in scholarships to our members pursuing higher education, usually with an emphasis on public service. Our two marquee scholarships, the Rosalie Wynn & George Randolph Hearst, Sr. Scholarship, and the USSYAA Alumni Scholarship, are awarded annually, and sometimes to multiple members. Scholarship applications open in the late summer, and close just after the new year.

Each spring, we return to the nation’s capital for our annual Alumni Weekend events, we present our marquee awards, and we go “home” to the Mayflower Hotel to welcome the incoming class of USSYP delegates. Every year, the USSYAA hosts an all-member “Annual Membership Meeting,” as well as a mentoring event with the incoming class of delegates. At our centerpiece event, we present our Annual Alumni Reception & Awards Dinner, where we celebrate the accomplishments of distinguished public servants and highlight our amazing members from across the country. Dates for Alumni Weekend are announced each year in early autumn, and registration opens in January. This is the biggest event on our calendar… don’t miss DC!

One of our core missions is to support the United States Senate Youth Program, and there are several ways we do this each year. First, our members act as ambassadors to high school students in their hometowns across the country, sharing program application materials by directing interested students to the USSYP website, and helping spread the word about application deadlines for each state. Our members also serve as mentors to delegates each year at the Mayflower Hotel, during our annual Alumni Mentoring event. One of the first experiences that the new delegates have each year on arrival day is meeting some of our members at themed career tables and hearing first-hand stories about Washington Weeks of the past. The most meaningful way we can support the US Senate Youth Program is by keeping an accurate, up-to-date database of information about our members spread across states and decades. That’s why USSYAA.org was designed! By updating your profile information here on our website, we can know where you went to school, what path your career has taken, and any other information that you wish to share with fellow members and the US Senate Youth Program. We frequently use this information to seek out speakers for our events, and help Hearst Foundation staff plan for Washington Week.

In addition to our core missions above, the USSYAA provides a variety of opportunities for our members to stay engaged with projects, committees, and special programs. From producing episodes of our USSYAA Podcast, to helping mentor younger members (or seeking out an older mentor!), there are many ways to get involved with the Association and stay connected with fellow members. Each year, the President and Executive Board produce the annual Alumni Newsletter, and we’re always looking for news about members across the country. If you have an idea for a project or an event, please contact a Board member and get the ball rolling! We’re always excited to support our members however and wherever we can.
