USSYAA Announces 2012–2014 Board & Committees

Following an exciting schedule that included the Fourteenth Annual Reception and Dinner, a well-attended, family-friendly tour of the Capitol, and an engaging afternoon mentoring new 2012 USSYP delegates, the Alumni Association held its annual membership meeting in the Senate Room of the Mayflower Hotel. Following various business items and directors' reports, the new Board of Directors was installed on March 3, 2012:

Continuing a long tradition of encouraging alumni participation, the following committees authorized by the by-laws were announced at the meeting:

Communications Committee: This committee addresses the organization's mission on communications, including announcements and releases via traditional, electronic and social media. The committee's Chair is David Zavadsky (WI 1990) and vice-chair is Dan Brown (MS 1987). If you are interested in joining the Communications Committee, please send an e-mail to the chair at .

Alumni Programs Committee: This committee addresses the organization's mission on alumni programs and financial assistance, and specifically administers the Rosalie Wynn Hearst and George Randolph Hearst, Sr., Scholarship. The committee is chaired by B. Amarilis Lugo de Fabritz (MA 1985). If you are interested in joining or rejoining this committee, please send an e-mail to the chair at .

Program Support Committee: This committee addresses the support the Alumni Association provides to the Senate Youth Program; specifically, the mentoring tables activity, as well as any logistical or outreach support the Program requires. The committee's chair is Rawle Andrews (TX 1983). To join or rejoin this committee, please send an e-mail to the chair at .

Finance and Investment Committee: This committee oversees the finances, investments, and budget of the USSYAA. Specifically it is responsible for investment portfolio management, tax preparation, and the short-term and long-term financial health of the organization. The committee is chaired by John Blakley (MI 1976), with vice-chair John Spisak. To join or rejoin this committee, please send an e-mail to the chair at .

In addition to the standing committees, President Lowe has authorized the formation of the following ad-hoc committees:

Resource Development Committee: This committee addresses fundraising for the organization, and is chaired by Rachel Lowe (OR 2000).

Awards Committee: This committee implements selection rules and criteria for the Rosalie Wynn Hearst Distinguished Public Service Award and the James T. Molloy Alumni Service Award, and provides recommendations for each award. The committee is chaired by Chad Robinson (DE 2001).

Annual Events Committee: This committee plans venues, menus, and overall focus and flow of the annual events of the Alumni Association. The committee's chair is Bryce Carson (OH 2009).

Long-Range Planning Committee: This committee is responsible for recommending long-term goals across all functional areas of the association, and seeks to answer the question, "what should the Alumni Association be to its members?" Rustin Fakheri (IL 2008) serves as the committee's chair.

Military Committee: This committee seeks to connect former Escort Officers and Military Mentors to the activities of the United States Senate Youth Alumni Association. Michael Gonzales (NM 1973) is the committee chair.

Joining the board members, chairs, and vice-chairs on the various committees are Pierre Joseph (MA 2010), Michael Lai (CA 2010), Jessica Salley (LA 2010), Wendy Jo Peterson (WA 1978), Suchita Shah (WI 2005), Emily Miller (NH 1995), Jenny Le (TX 2010), Chandini Bachman (AZ 1970), Millicent Cripe (IN 2010), Hunter Brunwald (OK 2010), Sid Sapro (IL 2010), Ivan Ango (DC 2010), Brandon Rosty (WY 2010), and Sean Dzierzanowski (MD 2007).

Finally, the USSYAA Board would like to thank outgoing directors Jen Tutak (FL 1998), Suchita Shah (WI 2005), Ash Bhumbla (WV 2004), Andrew Bonderud (TN 2001), and Janelle Kuroda (HI 1997) for their tireless efforts on behalf of the United States Senate Youth Alumni Association Board of Directors. We wish them all well in their future pursuits.
