Final Schedule Announced for 2008 USSYAA Alumni Weekend

January 18, 2008

Alumni Weekend 2008 Registration Form (PDF)

On Friday, February 29, the USSYAA will be presenting a "Salute to Public Service" luncheon at 12:00 noon in SD-G11 of the Dirksen Senate Office Building, thanks to the efforts of President-Elect Norman Fortenberry (LA 1979). Alumni cost for this event is $35.00 per person. This luncheon will feature presentations by the leaders of both the U.S. Public Service Academy initiative and the Partnership for Public Service.

At 6:30 PM on the evening of February 29, the annual USSYAA alumni reception and dinner will again be held at the historic James Monroe House in downtown Washington. Our featured speaker at the dinner will be USSYP alum and Chief Judge Robert Henry (OK 1971) of the U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals for the 10th Circuit. Judge Henry will discuss his efforts on the international level to help other countries develop their judicial systems, an effort in which he has been joined by a group of other prominent jurists including former U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor. Student alumni and guest cost for the dinner is $35.00 per person; standard alumni and guest cost is $50.00 per person.

On Saturday, March 1, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM, the USSYAA will hold its General Membership Meeting in SD-342 Dirksen Senate Office Building. This meeting is a prime opportunity to help shape the USSYAA by participating directly in its decision making process, and it is also an opportunity for those interested in serving the USSYAA in an official role to learn more about the association's governance and activities.

If you plan to attend the February 29 "Salute to Public Service" luncheon as part of your Alumni Weekend itinerary, please return the registration form and any payment to USSYAA's Washington, DC, post office box by January 28, 2008. Given the special arrangements with Senate Homeland Security & Governmental Affairs Committee for the "Salute to Public Service" luncheon, returning the registration form on a timely basis is of utmost importance. We greatly appreciate your cooperation with the earlier deadline for this event.

If you will not be attending the luncheon, but will be attending other weekend events (the alumni reception and dinner, and/or the General Membership Meeting), you must return your registration form by February 15, 2008.

Please also consider participating in what has become a great tradition on Welcome Day at the Mayflower Hotel–the Delegate Mentoring Tables. At the invitation of USSYP Program Director Rayne Guilford, USSYAA liaison officer Michael Sundermeyer is coordinating this project once again, which will take place beginning at 2:30 PM on Saturday, March 1, at the Mayflower Hotel. The program will feature tables focused on topics including government, law, education, business, and journalism. To share your expertise in any of these areas, or any other area of professional interest, please contact Michael Sundermeyer at .

Hope to see you soon in Washington!
