Katie Jo Luningham

bioKatie Jo (Baumgardner) Luningham (KS-06) is an attorney at Alston & Bird. She practices complex commercial litigation and appellate litigation, with an emphasis on defending institutions of higher education. She previously served as a law clerk at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit. Prior to clerking, Katie Jo was an attorney at Husch Blackwell in Kansas City, where she specialized in higher education litigation and regulatory compliance.
In 2015, Katie Jo earned a JD, magna cum laude, from Notre Dame Law School, where she was a Weigand Scholar, an NDLS First-Year Moot Court Tournament champion, and a recipient of the Dean’s Award for Legal Writing and Law of Education. In 2015, she won a Burton Distinguished Legal Writing Award, administered by the U.S. Library of Congress. In 2011, Katie Jo earned a B.A. in University Scholars, summa cum laude with honors, from Baylor.
In addition to serving on the USSYAA Board, Katie Jo has served as an Alumni-Elected Regent on the Baylor University Board of Regents since 2018. She currently resides in Atlanta, GA with her husband, Dr. Justin Luningham.
