Alumni Day of Service Set for September 14

August 26, 2013

The day for the United States Senate Youth Alumni Association's informal National Day of Service has been set! On Saturday, September 14, 2013, the USSYAA challenges its members to volunteer for local organizations to make a direct impact on their communities.

Where do I sign up?

There is no sign-up process for the National Day of Service. The USSYAA is simply encouraging its members to be more involved in their communities by volunteering. To find opportunities in your area, we suggest visiting idealist.org. In addition, we are organizing a group activity in Washington, D.C., in cooperation with American University. Be sure to check your e-mail, Facebook, and LinkedIn for more details.

I'm not available on September 14, or there are no opportunities available on that day. How can I participate?

More important than participating on a single day is the idea of giving back to your community. If September 14 isn't the best day for you, we suggest planning a day in the week immediately prior to or following September 14.

Is there anything else I should do?

If you uncover a large need for volunteers, please post that information in our Facebook or LinkedIn groups. You can also , Amaralis Lugo de Fabritz (MA 1985), and we will include the information in a future update.

As the alumni of a program that focuses on the best in public service, we hope that giving back in this small way to our communities is a way to share the spirit of Washington Week and excellence in public service with our neighbors. Please feel free to share your experiences in our Facebook and LinkedIn groups!
