The United States Senate Youth Alumni Association (USSYAA) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization comprised of all former delegates to the United States Senate Youth Program (USSYP), which is funded and operated by the William Randolph Hearst Foundations. While the USSYAA often works in collaboration with the USSYP and the Hearst Foundations, USSYAA is an independent, distinct organization that is not legally affiliated with either the USSYP or the Foundations.
USSYAA membership is automatically conferred upon all USSYP delegates, and the association does not charge any dues. USSYAA was founded in March 1999 to carry on the mission of Mrs. Rosalie "Mom" Hearst, who watched over USSYP delegates for over 25 years, and who wanted USSYP delegates to keep in touch with each other after the Week in Washington.
USSYAA builds and maintains avenues of communication among USSYAA members, provides financial assistance for the graduate professional education through a scholarship competition, and provides assistance to the United States Senate Youth Program upon request. For the past several years, USSYAA has held an annual Alumni Dinner on the Friday before the Welcome Day for each new USSYP class. The association also holds its annual business meeting the following morning, which has been hosted the last two years by the U.S. Senate.
The USSYAA Board has approved an expansion of ad hoc committees as a means to engage better the talents and interests of the association's members. Find out more...
This month's featured alumni are Jennifer Chudy and Erik Telford, Connecticut's 2002 recipients of U.S. Senate Youth Program scholarships. Learn more about them.
Now that our tax exempt status has been confirmed and we have initiated our scholarship activities this would be a great time for alumni (and others) to actively consider making donations to the Rosalie Wynn and George Randolph Hearst, Sr. Scholarship Fund. Please note the scholarship fund is a project of USSYAA and is neither affiliated with nor endorsed by The William Randolph Hearst Foundations. Tax-deductible contributions may be made by check (please indicate "Scholarship Fund" on the memo line) sent to USSYAA, P.O. Box 1798, Washington, DC 20013-1798.
Grants of up to $1,000 are made available to deserving alumni to defray the costs of graduate and professional programs. Priority is given to those alumni pursuing careers in which earnings may not adequately reflect the individual's level of commitment and service to society.
